Yoga – Volcano & Lake Vistas – Mayan Fire Ceremony ... & more

Lake Atitlán, Guatemala
A volcanic lake sanctuary in the Guatemalan highlands
Guatemala is a vibrant Central American country rich in Indigenous heritage, sacred tradition, and dramatic volcanic landscapes — the heart of the ancient Mayan world.
In the western highlands, Lake Atitlán — formed within a volcanic crater and framed by soaring peaks — offers a setting that feels both grounding and otherworldly.
Our retreat unfolds near the peaceful village of Santa Cruz La Laguna, a quiet, boat-access community known for its sweeping views and serene pace.
PLUS - If you’re inspired to extend your trip in Guatemala, consider exploring the colonial streets of Antigua, the vibrant markets of Chichicastenango, the ancient Mayan ruins of Tikal, or climbing up to see the active Volcán de Fuego— each offering a deeper glimpse into this rich and naturally beautiful country.

Villa Sumaya
Set directly on the shores of Lake Atitlán, Villa Sumaya is an intimate lakeside sanctuary — perfect for sunrise swims, paddles, and a slower, spacious pace of life.
A short walk brings you into the village of Santa Cruz La Laguna,, while scenic hikes or quick boat rides connect you to other nearby towns rich in art and culture.
The property features four lakeview yoga shalas, a pool, hot tub, sauna, on-site spa, botanical apothecary, and nourishing locally sourced meals served three times daily. Ceremonies are offered in collaboration with Indigenous guides, honouring the living Mayan traditions of the region.
With its natural beauty, thoughtful amenities, and strong community roots, Villa Sumaya provides the perfect setting for our heart-led yoga retreat.

Meet Your Host
- Madison -
I've been teaching Yoga since 2016,and leading retreats since 2020. Before fully stepping into this path, I worked as a television producer— an experience that honed my skills in curating seamless, intentional experiences. Today, I bring that same storytelling instinct into the heart of every retreat I lead, weaving together movement, mindfulness, and meaningful connection.
What sets my retreats apart is the balance I intentionally create: they are as much about rest, exploration, and travel as they are about deepening your Yoga practice. Each retreat is anchored by a thoughtfully chosen theme—one that invites personal growth, reflection, and a deeper connection to self. These themes guide our time together, from the mat to mealtime to evening games to solo moments of stillness.
Born and raised in Toronto, I continue to teach Yoga, Pilates, and other mindful movement modalities with a focus on linking breath, body, and mind. My classes blend creative sequencing, curated playlists, and playful energy with hands-on support, modifications, and space to honour your individual journey.
To me, Yoga is a way to calm the mind, regulate the nervous system, and return to the present moment. My hope is that what we practice on retreat becomes something you carry home: a sense of clarity, strength, and connection that supports you in your everyday life.

Travel

GETTING TO THE RETREAT CENTER:
• The closest airport is La Aurora International Airport (GUA) in Guatemala City — approximately 2.5–3.5 hours by car to the lake (depending on traffic). From Panajachel (the town the boats leave from), it’s a scenic 10-minute boat ride across Lake Atitlán directly to Villa Sumaya.
• If you're arriving the first day of the retreat, it's recommended that you book a morning flight to Guatemala City Airport, arriving before 2pm, to allow proper time to get to the center. Check in is at 3pm, and ideally everyone is there no later than 8pm at night.
• If you have the time, arriving a day or more before, and spending a few nights in Antigua (only 2hrs from the lake), is a wonderful start to your trip. I can offer recommendations for that.
• I will help arrange the boat that takes us from the main dock to Villa Sumaya, using a private service. There is are also public ferries available.
• The travel agency I work with can also help you with booking flights, shuttles, & help secure travel and health insurance, as needed.
